JOB APPLICATION and INTERVIEW QUESTIONS

As promised here is some help with creating a job application. There are also some hints on what and what not to ask as interview questions.

Design a job application that each applicant must fill out and sign. Preparing to Fill Out A Job Application will give you an idea of what to put into the design of the job application you design.

Make certain a disclaimer is written on the application that asserts you can fire the person if statements on the application are found to be untrue. Also have room for names, addresses and phone numbers of references. Put a statement on the application that the person will be on probation for 30 or 60 days (your choice.) This gives you a window within which you can terminate the worker without much documentation, if he just doesn't live up to your expectations.

Write interview questions before the interview process begins. Ask each person who is interviewed the same questions. A lot can be learned about one when the question asked is open- ended. An answer of yes or no, doesn't tell much, but a question where the person has to make a sentence to explain an issue will tell volumes about the person.
Create open-ended questions by starting the questions with: What, Who, When, Why, Which, How, Where and If. To help the person communicate, start some conversation with: Just out of curiosity; By the way; In your view or opinion. Look here to see excellent examples of Common Job Interview Questions

When you are a serious business owner, you have to play by the rules. There are many federal and state regulations written to help protect potential employees. Keep Hiring Legal tells how to keep within the rules.

To comply with the rules you should:

  1.  Advertise the job opening where many people can read it.
  2.  Carefully write the job description to define the skills, education and any other qualifications necessary to the position.
  3.  Do not screen the applicants with procedures that have a unfair impact on any group of applicants.

  • "My sister is such a sport, she has offered to work part-time for me while I get caught up."
  • What is part-time? What is caught up?
  • Will sister come into work on a project that is coming in just under the deadline, if she has an offer to take a long weekend at the beach?
  • Can sister take orders from you, or will she actually bypass one step in the process because, "Well, putting that extra screw in there is just a waste of time and money!" You know the extra screw gives a sturdier product.
