MAKING DECISIONS© Barbara Massie
Don't be afraid of making decisions because you might make
a mistake. Sometimes you have more of a tendency to procrastinate when
you are unsure of yourself.
When you have a decision to make, determine the pros and cons of the problem; gather the facts; choose alternatives. Then MAKE the decision. Don`t be worried about the embarrassment of making a mistake. We do learn by our mistakes. I`m sure that is how I have done most of my learning. Just call it experience and carry on with your life. Look here for more hints on making decisions How to Make Deep Decisions that Make a Difference. Eliminate some problems and having to make decisions by following some common sense solutions that many use. Such as --Set regular business hours. Do business during those hours just as if you were going to a job for someone else. You have heard and read this before, but it is absolutely necessary in keeping your sanity to learn to say, "No." You can say, "No" and still keep your friends and family. Just don't beat around the bush or give long-winded excuses. You have to find your own style and you do have choices. Say, "No,: then give a straight forward explanation of what you might be willing to do. An example would be: "I'm not willing to do that, but I would be willing to ______." Your telephone can be your friend, but don`t let it control your life. Don't answer the phone just because it rings. If the call is important, the caller will try again. An answering machine will allow an important call to be left for you to answer when you aren't busy or during your scheduled "call back time." Do return your calls promptly. Learn what to do when Dealing with abusive telephone calls. Have a "To Phone" list. List each person you need to call that day (or week) and the topic of conversation. Set aside a frame of time within which you will use the phone. An answering machine also allows you to monitor your calls. You can hear who is calling and pick up the receiver immediately, if you want to take the call right then. If you can`t stand to hear a phone ring and you do want some quiet time, turn the volume down as low as it will go and cover the phone with a pillow. One of my rules for self-preservation: If you aren't there when the phone rings, you can`t answer. If the call is important the person will call back. So pretend you`re not there! Every day as you do any item of work, ask yourself if you are Go To Page: 1 2
