TIME and ATTITUDE

Budget your time like you are paying for it, because you are, in personal wear and tear in precious hours you might spend doing something you enjoy more. Budget your day to accomplish what you want, but budget it loosely and don't over schedule. How to Manage Your Time is geared toward students, but isn't that what we all are?

"The hurrier I go, The behinder I get,"
An Amish saying.

Feeling pressured, you start to hurry, aren't concentrating as well and make mistakes causing you to get behind on your work or causing you to have to redo it.

Do you remember C. Northcote Parkinson's Law?

"Work expands to fill the time available for its completion."

Budget your time seriously and you will repeal Parkinson's Law. The next time you find yourself doing a routine, and perhaps disliked task slowly, set a timer and rush to finish before the timer goes off. You will have finished the task and found time for something you like to do. You will have budgeted your time which is one of the first steps to time control.

Do set realistic deadlines, not only for yourself, but for what you expect of others. Set mini-deadlines within the big deadline. Estimate how much time the mini-deadlines will take and stick to the estimate. You will soon find you have met the big deadline.

Attitude is a state of mind and you can change it at will. Keeping a sense of humor is essential. You must have the right attitude to live happily and to accomplish what you want. Practice smiling a lot. It is difficult to think sad or bad thoughts when smiling . The Attitude is Everything site offers a newsletter and motivational quotes and essays to making you more successful.

Don't take yourself too seriously or you may lose your sense of humor about your own foibles and wind up defensive and resentful. Think positive. Look to the happy side. Sounds philosophical but it does work! Laugh at life. A sense of humor is healthy and it will rub off on other people. An angry person can walk into a room and change the whole atmos phere; YOU can walk into a room laughing, and change the whole atmosphere.

Reprogram your mind like a computer, erase negative thoughts, input positive ones. Any negative thought is bad because it allows the mind to make the body slow down and feel tired. Eliminate destructive self talk: "I'm too old to ..."", "I'm too fat to ...," etc. When you catch yourself dwelling on an unhappy thing, switch your attention to something happy.
