A. Part of her problem is that she probably stands like a typical woman. Most of the weight is on one foot, with her hip stuck out. The other foot is just kind of resting on its toes, throwing the hip on that side out of kilter. By the end of a long day, the hip and leg becomes very tired. The weight has been on one side, instead of divided between both feet. Ladies, take a tip from the men. Men have the most comfortable way of standing for periods of time! In the military, "at ease" means you stand tall, feet spread and hands clasped behind your back. Almost all men stand that way naturally. Practice standing the way men do. You don't have to clasp your hands behind your back; clasp them in front or keep one hand in a pocket. Just stand with your feet slightly apart, with weight distributed evenly on both feet. I heard this tip at a women's seminar several years ago. Being a little bit of a feminist, I knew I didn't want to look like a man, but I tried it. I still look like a woman and am much more comfortable standing "at ease." Q. Our feet hurt so bad at night when we are done with a show. My husband starts complaining about his during the afternoon. Is there something we can do to make our poor feet feel better? A. Carry another pair of shoes to change into during the show. Change shoes around mid-morning and again during the afternoon. Wear shoes with good support. Sneakers are wonderful for browsing or selling at shows. Wearing socks with your shoes also helps cushion them. Many flats women wear don't have the inner support that is needed to stand most of the day. Remember, our feet support our WHOLE body weight. Be it little or much, our two feet feel ALL of it. An old-fashioned suggestion that really does work when you get home is to sit with your feet in a pan of warm water. After drying your feet, massage them with a couple of drops of oil or lotion. Try it, you will be surprised at the difference a little TLC makes. Here is General Footcare Information where you can read about specfic foot problems. Go To Page: 1 2
