No Cooking Required!

"No Cooking Required!" is wonderful to read when trying to find recipes that are appropriate for very beginning cooks or for those with extremely limited kitchens. Scout troops, elementary classes, and dorms are perfect candidates for easy to make, no-cook recipes. Some recipes may require boiling, though. New cooks will have as much fun making these as they will have eating them.

*Tingies*
These snacks are related to the "Haystacks" many Girl Scouts remember making.

1 (3 oz.) chow mein noodles
1 (6 oz.) pkg. chocolate chips
1 (6 oz.) pkg. butterscotch chips
1 c. ground nuts, peanuts or cashews

Melt chips, mix in noodles and nuts. Drop on wax paper. Make small with different shapes. Wait until hardens.

*Chocolate Sandwich Pie*
Quick and delicious!

1 1/2 c. miniature bite-size chocolate sandwich cookies
1 qt. any flavor ice cream, softened (vanilla and chocolate work well)
1 (9 inch) graham cracker crust

Stir cookies into softened ice cream; spread in prepared crust. Freeze 2 to 3 hours or until firm. Let stand 5 to 10 minutes before cutting into wedges to serve.

*Peanut Butter Fudge*
Far easier to make than the traditional fudge recipes

1 c. water
2 c. sugar
1/3 c. light syrup
1 tsp. vanilla
1/3 stick margarine
1 1/2 c. peanut butter

Mix water, sugar and syrup in a 2-quart saucepan. Cook over medium high heat until it forms a soft ball in cold water. Remove from heat. Add vanilla, margarine and peanut butter. Beat until stiff. Pour into a buttered 9x9 inch dish. Let cool.

*Cherry-Pineapple Dream*
So easy, and a Fourth of July favorite!

1 can cherry pie filling
1 can condensed, sweetened milk
1 can crushed pineapple
1 bowl whipped topping

Mix all together and freeze. Can be made day or two before using.

*No-Bake Chocolate Cookies*
Easy introduction to measuring and cooking

1/2 c. milk
2 c. granulated sugar
1/2 stick margarine
2/3 c. peanut butter
3 c. quick rolled oats
5 tbsp. cocoa
1 t. vanilla

Boil milk, sugar, and oleo for 1 minute. Then mix peanut butter, oats, and cocoa. Mix dry ingredients into liquid well. Drop by spoonfuls on wax paper.

*Peanut Butter Candy*
A friend of mine said that this is like the center of a Buckeye (chocolate and peanut butter candy)

4 c. peanut butter
1 1/2 lb. powdered sugar
1/2 c. dry powdered milk
1/2 c. melted butter
1 tbsp. vanilla

Mix ingredients in the order given. Press in pan and cut into squares or roll into balls.

*Ambrosia*
No picnic should be without a bowl of this classic!

1 (20 oz.) can pineapple chunks
1 (11 oz.) can mandarin oranges
1 1/2 c. seedless grapes
