Cottage Garden Sensations

Children adore the reckless abandon of the overplanted cottage garden. They respond to it with all their senses and by running, dancing, singing; they become the wild creatures in harmony with the world within the garden. Overhead tower hollyhocks amid bright sunflowers, the weeping cherry tree welcomes and shelters us in its shady bower, the little fish pool begs for tiny boats made of bark and twigs. Children will stop to pick bouquets, stop to eye the bees hard at work, stop to eat the luscious stolen raspberries.

And sometimes, children help us remember their kind of world, where immediacy is all, where new experiences and sensations happen every day, learning opportunities one and all to a small child. And sometimes, for grown-ups too.

Next time, in honor of great kids and and gardens everywhere, here is a story (by a very special guest author and photographer) that happened in our cottage garden. Let it be a lesson to you all.

I'm sure you will enjoy The Duckeys' Swim Adventure!
