You can grow a giant pumpkin this season if you get started NOW. With a little luck, maybe you'll grow a prize winner. Just How Big? Let's say about half a ton of big. Just how you get it to the county fair is a different problem! Giant pumpkins are grown from a seed the size of a dime, no kidding. Seriously, here are ten basic steps to Growing Giant Pumpkins in the Home Garden. Here, Organic Gardening reports on the how's and why's of growing giant pumpkins. Of course, you must start with good seeds, like Mr. Dill's. Dill's Atlantic Giant is a pretty good seed and has won some prizes over the years. There really is a Howard Dill, too. He is a champion pumpkin grower par excellence. Mr. Howard Dill's own growing instructions start with soil preparation. First things first! MORE detailed growing instructions, from the organizers of Pumpkinfest (in Ontario) who want YOU to have success. (Select the html or pdf version.) Some special hints on how to grow a pumpkin as heavy as a small car from who else but The Pumpkin Master. Enjoy some pumpkin grower's poems if you are ready to wax poetic. If you've read this far, maybe you are ready to visit the shrine. On your marks, get set, PLANT! May the best pumpkin win. Remember, you need lots of space, great soil, lots of water, good weather, good seeds and a little luck. Send me a photo of you (or your grandkids or your puppy dog or whatever) and your giant pumpkin (prizewinner or not) this summer and I'll publish it. ENJOY! Go To Page: 1
