Otherwise, family and peer pressure may force you to face the final, utterly unpalatable alternative of relegating yourself to the Telegarden.

    It's either that, or be prepared to grin and suffer the annual consequences. If your grouchy great aunt gives your hands one imperious "look" too many, you may simply associate yourself with better company by quoting Voltaire.

    "Il faut cultiver notre jardin."

    And then, deftly change the subject. Offer to share these eye-popping optical illusions after dinner — guaranteed to amuse and entertain both gardeners and non-gardeners of all ages. Just don't let them watch your fingers fly across the keyboard!
