After you've read that, do take a minute to move a step up the horticultural ladder and check out another, more detailed kid-oriented article, Grow an Indoor Herb Garden from The Whole Herb. It not only puts Disney's kid's article of the same title to shame but will give you a better chance of success.

After all, if you go to the effort of tracking down the materials and actually doing the deed, whether it's for yourself or with your kids, you might as well start with a full deck of cards.

Still looking for inspiration as to what to grow indoors? Check out this excellent series of articles, Herbs in Your Home again from The Whole Herb. Don't let the opening piece on herbs as housekeeping aids throw you -- scroll down for some great cultural and generally informative insights on all types of herbs indoors from ginger to scented geraniums to who knows what.

Now, if you don't at first succeed, try, try again. In case you need it, here's an upbeat Fresh Start With Herbs from Southern Living. If it doesn't turn out this fall, you can always give container herbs another try next spring! (Isn't gardening wonderful!)

Need a little more encouragement? The Mayo Clinic says herbs are healthy in Herbs: Grow Your Own Seasonings and offers some interesting herb blend recipes in Food Cravings: Shaking The Salt Habit. These use dried ingredients from the grocery store so you can try them whether or not you grow your own!

And if you really feel brown-thumbed or just too rushed, check the shops and catalogs for complete starter sets like this Italian Garden Kit from Burpee. There are lots to pick from, they make great gifts and hey, it's always fun to experiment, right?

Finally, take a minute to visit this wonderful newly featured Cottage Garden Site: Suza's Farm for Homeless Worms and Cats -- "where gardening is a total experience" and the amorphophallus pix are simply stunning.

ENJOY!

Last spring, my daughter told me we/I won my very best World Wide Web Award ever: One of the Funniest Moms on the Web by Royal Decree. I am just so tickled! Read all about it here: Funniest Mom on the Web Thank you!

I relaunched my topic under the new name of The Cottage Garden. But don't worry - the Eco-Gardens articles are archived right along with all the articles from The Cottage Garden.
