"Hey, I know, I'll make a website!" You're a person of class and taste so of course you're a Coronation Street fan. You think, I can do this, I'll create a Corrie page on the internet.
Now, if you've explored the web at all, you'll already have found corrie.net and csvu.net and a host of other well made and interesting sites, not to mention the the Official Site, which I try not to mention. Of course, if you're new to things, you just might decide to start from scratch and make your own comprehensive tribute to the show going into its history and characters etc. etc. I always find these pages charming, but it is a bit like reinventing the wheel. But being an experienced Corriesurfer, you think better of putting in all that time and effort when it's already been done several times. But you do love the show and it still seems like a great idea. So what do you do? We all have our favourite characters, and you have yours, so you sit down and do up your very own tribute to him or her. Which is what a lot of people have done. They're usually amateur efforts, but I mean that in the best sense of the word, done for the best reasons, and all the better for it. So let's take a look, I think that it's the least that we owe their creators. There is one curious fact about Coronation Street actor sites and it's this - the more important a character is, the less likely there will be a website devoted to them. And the better a site is, the more likely that it's about someone who's already left, who never really mattered, who's just about to leave, or has just arrived. Here, I'll show you what I mean... Three is no Hilda Ogden site or Raquel Watts Page or even a Mike Baldwin Web. On the other hand, three of the best Corrie actor sites are about three villains who each appeared only very briefly in the late 90's, then disappeared again leaving only small entries in the shows reference books. The first of these is devoted to Mike's partner/Sally's boyfriend Greg Kelly. It's The Stephen Billington Homepage and it's simply beautiful. The strange thing is that not many that I know thought much of the actor or the character while he was on the show. In fact, most couldn't wait for him to leave. He did end up going, but here we are, left with a glowing tribute to him. It's a bit like finding out that the most beautiful ancient Greek statue that we now pocess is actually a likeness of the thrid guy from the left in the Greek chorus of one of Aristophanes' plays. Go figure. Go To Page: 1 2
