OK, I admit it, I have a problem: I am an obsessive hunter and collector of Coronation Street links. I can't tell you how many hours I used to spend at it. I'd wake up at 1 AM because I had to pee, then tell myself, "What the heck", sit myself down at the computer and spend an hour or two bumping around the internet, looking through Alta Vista until the 416th entry in case I turned up something new.
Oh dear. What's the point? I'm not sure, except I get a real kick out of finding some weird little site with something really really cool on it that nobody else even knows about. And, there are some really fascinating things out there, if you know where to look, or have the patience to look everywhere. Here are a just a couple of for instances. The first one is a picture I stumbled across one day that I find perfectly charming. It's part of an ad for Lee Cooper Jeans and it features most of the cast from about a decade ago all decked out in their coolest duds. I like to call it "Alfie's Midnight Runners." Have a look. "Come on Maureen..." Oh never mind. :) There's surprisingly little memorablilia on the internet from later than fifteen years ago given the show's enormous popularity over the years. I wish there was a lot more. That's why something like this little website is really very exciting. It was put up by MarcyP in Saskatchewan, Canada. It's a picture taken at Woburn Abbey by a friend of hers who appeared in the show in the 70's. I don't think you'll find it in any book. That's Annie and Ken on the left and Ena and Minnie on the right. If anyone knows the identities of the three in the middle, let us know. There is quite a bit of Corrie related merchandise for sale over the internet, but this site is my favourite. I'm not sure why, see if you can tell. It's advertising a line of foodstuffs put out by Pettigrews of Scotland. These include "Betty's Fresh Vegetable Pickle" and "Ena Sharple's Lemon Curd." Ummm. Moving on... At last, I found the actual homepage for The Rovers Return Inn, except that I was shocked to find out that it isn't in Weatherfield after all, it isn't even in England, it's in Amman, Jordan of all places! Who knew?
