Handing off the Shift3. If you're in the middle of a procedure at the time of shift change, complete the task yourself before handing off the shift. There's nothing worse than coming in the middle of a sequence without knowing everything that has gone on before. How would you like to be operated on and have your surgeon leave the room in the middle? These are just some of the ways to accommodate a better shift change. It's important to know what's happened before coming on shift. No matter how sleepy you are, force yourself to keep good notes and prepare in advance for the arrival of your relief.
