In a previous article I spoke about managing your Fibromyalgia through reducing your sugar. Its possible according to all the “rumors” and other studies that sugar can increase your pain reception. Let’s examine our lives like that is gospel.

Sugar is bad, it is brain food, but for now we will assume that we have far too much of the stuff in our lives. Now we will set out to eliminate that excess. I am not going to tell you what to eat but I figured to go at this more basically. What are the sugar substitute options we can work with? The options I am going to talk about are most widely used and available in hundreds of products in America.

Alrighty then, our choices are slim. We can cut back our sugar and learn to love it “I personally just haven’t been able to do this one.” Or we can look at the substitutes.

Now as we look at substitutes and lets remember the warnings, Saccharin is bad for you it could cause cancer. The studies over the years have pretty much cinched this however do to the changes of mind over the years you can still easily buy this in America. So let’s take the cancer warning seriously and accept it as a given and probably true so... scratch saccharin I don’t want cancer.

What about Saccharin’s replacement Aspartame? Oh the rumors about this stuff are unreal. It can change to formaldehyde. You could basically pickle in your own juice. All right folks let’s get real I am not here to debate the chemistry of the problem. I am here to tell you that if we could kill ourselves that easily with this food stuff somebody would have pulled it off the market long ago. So let’s not haggle over the rumors lets leave it at this if you were going to drink/eat that much of the stuff I think we would have a lot of very well preserved diabetics in our country. So aspartame for now is a viable option for us. Some of the candy producers have figured out that too much literally leaves a bad taste in your mouth. Meaning yummy some of them are getting it right and the candy tastes better all the time.

That gives all the candy cravers in us an option. Next we come to a product called “Splenda” I am going to assume that is a trademark. For some of us it will work great for others it will aggravate our systems it appears to be a fructose derivative and many call it a non-sugar alternative. “Tell that to my glucose meter.” It does raise my own personal blood sugar so I am not to pleased with it personally.
