An open letter. Is there a test for Fibro?

Question: Is there a test for Fibromyalgia and is it inherited?

My Answer; (Keep in mind my mistakes were left in the text to remind you... I am a fibro too, not a doctor)

Medical professionals have been working for a long time on a blood test. There have been rumours that there is such a test however I have NOT seen definet information about such a test. Truly the old stand by exam looking for 11 of the 18 "trigger points" is how most of us are being diagnosed. Any rhuematologist can perform such a check and you will know when that hit the spot cause depending on the amount of pressure they apply you will jump out of your skin from sudden pain.

These points are always active, meaning no matter what if they are pressed it hurts. However not everyone has 11 points and not everyone has all the points it varies from patient to patient and I have known one lady in particular to only have problems with her feet. So in general it depends on the patient as too how bad, or where you will hurt.

Until the test is proven we still sit in limbo waiting for doctors to catch up to what some of us already know and are doing for relief.

As too your question as far as being an inherited condition the doctors have not decided on that either.

However, I am a second generation Fibro and it looks like ONE if not more of my nieces are also fibro's. I have tracked a lot of families and there are many fibros in families. Does it mean its inherited. It is a matter of how we look at it. In many cases it looks that way, or is it that we simply inherit some week points etc that make us inclined as a family to have it occur.

I do know that I have noticed a personality profile as far as Fibros go. They are over workers, like aiding others to excess, in generalthey indulge in too much, candy, caffine, and nicotine. Many are nervous long before the trigger event that takes them into pain. In general "super people" who think they can handle the job, house, family problems and more all by themselves.

It is a difficult life style to undo to send yourself into remission however it can be done. WE have members that now control their pain very well and are finding new lives for themselves.

I, also, think FMS is inherited. Although she won't admit, I believe my mother has it. Unfortunately, it looks like both of my kids (19 and 16) also have it.

As for personality type, I disagree wit ...
