One thing for certian is that illness can aggravate or cause a new flare in fibromyalgia patients. So why would we neglect that litte red scratch that just won't go away?
Stress from the care of the wound, poor posture caused by sore feet and the need for antibiotics can cause long term problems. Stubborn infections that set in due to a neglected injury can mean antibiotics, hospital time, limited exercise opportunities, lost time from work, and in some cases death. So don't let the little scratch become a big problem. Every aspect of a fibros life must be scrutinized and kept neatly in order and functioning well to avoid flares. Don't let a cat scratch strain your body any further. Take care of your small injuries and avoid them becoming big problems. So your sitting in your living room and you realize that something under your shirt hurts. What could that lump be? It is Friday night and you have no intention of running after a doctor for a knot. Many folks would take such small things like an infected pimple or cut very lightly. I am here to suggest otherwise. Don’t worry I don’t have that horror story tucked in my pocket, except for a few stubborn infections that even stumped the doctors I have been very lucky. Maybe I have been very diligent in my wound care. So here you with a knot that has started to drain, it could be any knot a painful one or one with white or green or a little blood leaking from it and you are going to decide to do nothing about it, as it will heal up. Let us stop right there and right now. Even as a healthy adult who never gets sick a simple knot can kill you don’t ignore it. Do not think to yourself, it will get better. Address it immediately and at bare minimum cover it to prevent spreading the germs to others or from foreign matter from entering the wound. Are you interested in doing the more than the bare minimum? 1) Clean the wound. Take a damp paper towel and clean around the area, if you can rub all caked matter including blood or infection off. DO SO GENTLY. 2) Flush the wound with clean water, or peroxide. Do not use alcohol for this or you will still be screaming when you get to the doctors. 3) With a dry paper towel pat the wound clean gently. Then cover it. Be sure to dispose of all the paper towels or to sterilize anything you use.
