As we explore a new millennium, we also explore a new life by beginning to survive Fibromyalgia. No longer are we the victims of our medical professionals’ ignorance to our disease. Knowledge is power; power is control over our own lives, bodies, and happiness. We can control our health and improve our symptoms with the basics. We need to be using the weapons mom harped about to make us feel better. What are those weapons? They would be proper sleep, exercise, moderation and good nutrition. There are many components in nutrition. Try to approach your own nutrition like a vehicle or a plant in a pot. Your body has fuel needs. When they are not supplied you wither and become unhealthy. Plants however get their fuel from dirt and sunlight, cars from gasoline. What quality of fuel have you been giving yourself and how often? Is it quick burning with nothing to sustain you through long days? Is that fuel made up of nothing but sugar? What about those slow burning complex carbohydrates such as breads, meats and vegetables such as peas or green beans or even rice? Do these slow burning foods cause you to have energy peaks and lows that ruin your day and leave you tired and nauseous? What is the problem with just one or the other? Poorly timed meals of just one fuel or the other leaves you lagging in the start or out of fuel before the day is done. If your body does not receive a proper mixture of the fuel needed then something isn’t going to work. Without proper food something will misfire and then what? One broken down body that just doesn’t run correctly. So you want to start mixing up those meals and providing a balance. I eat right, I exercise, and my vitamin levels are fine! “Okay hot shot,” you ask, “what can you tell me I don’t already know?” I haven’t the faintest idea what any of you know… but it never hurts to remind ourselves about what we do know once in a while. Especially if we take the time to crack a reference book or browse the net and see what we can learn that is new. Lets go back to basics you probably know the food groups. You also know you can cheat and take supplements. There is however a problem with that thought. Supplements are extremely dangerous when it comes to a vitamin overdose. Vitamin overdose occurs because some vitamins are fat-soluble that means that when given an excess of this vitamin and the body does not use the vitamins they build up in sufficient amounts to become toxic to our organs. Vitamin Toxicity can result in damage to our body that is not repairable and in some cases death. It is not pretty but it could happen if you are not careful.
