Weathering The Humidity With Fibromyalgia

If you have Fibromyalgia, Osteo arthritis or Rhuematoid Arthritis the humidity can seem to weigh you down. This is the time of year we all have to use our convenience appliances to our best advantage. The one thing we need is air conditioning, air conditioning, and more air conditioning. Occasionally a dehumidifier wouldn't hurt either. Just when your pain levels are dropping from a busy week out, the weatherman wrecks your recovery by announcing the impending heat wave. Sadly it is time to reconsider your out door plans before becoming over active and triggering a flare. Make sure you have a room that is properly balanced for your own comfort. Teach the family that if the room is too cold for them then they need to dress to suit the temperature. Remind them about the weather constraints and make cooler indoor plans. If you are unsure about where you are going to, call ahead explain that you will be a visitor of limited capacity and that you need to know how their facility is heated or cooled depending on the season. These types of trips can include, malls, special events, even grocery shopping. Your vehicle should be checked yearly before this season starts make sure that the car is in good running condition and the air conditioner works properly. A stranded Fibromyalgia patient cannot walk the long distances for help. Short distances in this type of overwhelming heat will strip you of your energy and increase your pain. If the stress from a broken down car does not make you feel worse, the heat will. Even if you are not strand this can include walking indoors in stores. Consider using the stores’ electric scooters once inside, or borrowing a wheelchair from the mall. Many malls offer them for free or a small charge. Should you become disgusted with the generally poorly kept or clunky chairs, it may be time to talk to your doctor about a script for a chair. Accepting and using a wheelchair does not necessarily mean you are giving up. Explain to your doctor that you will only use it away from home and only on long rigorous trips. A lot of us are reluctant to use these helpful appliances. That perhaps is the biggest compromise you can make. Remember however, you are not making these compromises for just yourself, but your family too. When you go home later in the day and are not asleep on the couch, or a nasty grouch, they will thank you.
