Top 5 Hot Picks!

This issue of Cool/Great Sites features five fantastic web sites I have recently discovered on the net. There are only five sites featured in this article but they are all extensive web sites and I have included detailed descriptions of each site.

The first site featured here was referred to me by a gentleman who left me a message here at Suite 101. I decided to check it out and was quite impressed. When I discovered that the site was designed by a 17-year-old high school student, I was doubly impressed! It's called Cool Archive and features tons of free stuff for your web pages, including a random joke on every page. This web site's extremely easy navigation and fast loading pages make it a real gem. Below is a complete listing of what Cool Archive has to offer:

Fonts - over 450 that work on both PCs and MACs.
Animation - approximately 30 categories containing hundreds of animated gifs, includes background selector so you can see in an instant exactly what it'll look like.
HTML Tips and Tricks - that is, how to take out the underline from links; how to make an email link with the subject already filled in. Bullets - 204-plus, great selection, tons of variety.
Bars - 175-plus, very colorful, great design.
Arrows - 200-plus cool collection of pointers.
Sounds - not a big collection, but excellent quality in four sections - sound FX, movies sounds, TV shows and others.
Applications - these are all free programs under 1MB in size. They're either funny, cool or will enhance your computer. Some of these look really hilarious - there's one that pretends to delete every file on your computer and another one that turns your Windows screen upside down!
Backgrounds - 200-plus original unique backgrounds. Most of them are available in several different colors.
Photoshop - new section still under construction.
Online Logo Generator and Button Maker
Cool Services - free mailing form. Put a free mail form on your web site. Eleven different text entries to choose from.
Links - by category, with comments included and 1-5 rating.
Utilities - includes full descriptions and 1-5 rating.

I spent several hours visiting Cool Archive and definitely plan to return!

My second selection is Mamma: The Mother of All Search Engines. I found this site in Web Side Story (#1 on 8/30/98 with over 20,000 hits in one day!) This is a great new meta search engine, which queries the top search engines on the Web (Altavista, Excite, Infoseek, Lycos, Webcrawler, Yahoo and HotBot) and creates a virtual database with the best results. You can easily search the Web, usenet, news, stock quotes, MP3 files, pictures and sounds. Mamma also features a power search feature and search tips. Mamma also tells you which search engine found each result. "Why search one when you can search them all?"
