"SPOOKY IDEAS"

The middle of this coming week is one of my all-time favorite Holidays. HALLOWEEN!

I don't know about all of you, but this Holiday always brings back memories of the great times we, as kids, always had each year when this day came around.

As dusk approached, we would all spread out throughout our neighborhoods decked out as our favorite "spooky" character. Goodie bags in hand we would go from house to house gathering all sorts of things from neighbors and friends.

Of course, the best part of the evening came when we returned home and spread out all the treasures and saw a vast assortment of "goodies" that might include things such as Apples, Oranges, Cookies of all sorts, and sometimes even a dollar bill or two.

Unfortunately, times have changed and those care-free days are sadly gone--probably forever.

In today's world, kids are no longer free to roam the neighborhoods, un accompanied by their parents, and most Halloween festivities take place at Community Centers, Shopping Centers or in someone's home.

Of course these types of things can be fun, but I can't help but feel a loss of things gone by.

Hopefully, you will be planning some kind of fun for your kids and their friends this year and, if you are doing so, here are a few ideas for your celebration. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Create Deviled Eyeballs by simply topping each egg half with a slice of Green or Black Olives. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Make yourself a Veggie Head by securing a Styrofoam Wig Form to a wooden or Cardboard base and covering it with pieces of cut-up Vegetable or Fruit pieces, secured with toothpicks. Be creative! Use Bell Pepper or Apple slices for lips and you might use Radishes--peeled in strips--for "Bloodshot Eyeballs. Just be sure to provide a dip to go along with the treats. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Such common things as Spaghetti and Meatballs take on a whole new meaning when you name it "Worms and Eyeball Casserole" <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Chicken strips, served with Ranch Dressing--tinted Green with Food Coloring--become "Witch Fingers and Slime Dressing". <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

The "old fashioned" game of Bobbing for Apples can be changed by using Grapes instead and calling the game "Bobbing for Eyeballs". Or if splashed out water isn't your favorite thing, try suspending the apples from the ceiling with string or twine and have the kids try to catch one of them with their teeth--no hands allowed. Of course the child gets the Apple as a reward. <<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<<

Make "Candy Pumpkins" by trimming the edges of two candy Orange Slices and make a round or oval shape by sticking the cut edges together. Top with a slice of a green Gumdrop to make the stem of the Pumpkin.
