JUST A FEW THOUGHTS!

Sep 13, 2001 - © Vaudie E. Harrison

No recipes this week--I'm just too sad and ANGRY!

September 11, 2001, a sad day in history! As president Roosevelt said after the bombing of Pearl Harbor, " A Day That Will Go Down In Infamy".

In many ways, this attack on the United States was even more horrific than the attack on Pearl Harbor. The death toll will probably be higher than that at Pearl Harbor. This attack was directed at innocent civilians and the economy , of not only the United States, but the entire world.

My heart goes out to all those who, needlessly, were injured or killed in this attack. However, like most others, I'm mad as hell.

As more information becomes available to the people doing the investigation, more and more evidence points to one man--Osama Ben Laden. This man is one of the most well financed and extreme terrorists in the world and a man who has, in his own words, declared war upon the United States. In fact, a court here in the United States has indited him for his previous terrorist crimes.

The question now is--Where Do We Go From Here?

In a "normal" type of war, there are so-called "Rules Of Engagement"--things that can be done and others that cannot. Targets that can be hit, and those that should not be hit.

However, in terrorist type of warfare, there are no rules--at least on the part of the terrorist. To combat this type of attack, it becomes necessary to play by the same rules--or lack of such rules--that govern the terrorist organizations involved. This flies in the face of all that we hold dear, but it is the only way that such organizations can be combated.

This will require a "steely" resolve on the part of the United States, both governmental and civilian. This will mean that we must locate the group, or groups, responsible and retaliate in a massive and final manner--without normal regard for the avoidance of collateral damage. This must include not only the groups themselves but the Nations that have been harboring them and helping to finance them in their terrorist acts. Only by doing so will we, hopefully, end these actions world wide. I can only hope that this country, and it's allies, can find such resolve.

This might sound harsh to some, but it is the only way. However, we must not forget that this was an "Act of War" against the United States and must be treated as just that.
