TAKE THE DAY OFF--SORTA!

Dec 31, 1999 - © Vaudie E. Harrison

If things around your house are any where near the way they are around our place, you're sorta tired and worn out from all the Holiday activities. After all, over the past month or so, you've not only coped with all the Thanksgiving action, you've made a great Christmas dinner, done all the Christmas shopping, had a houseful of guests, and right now you're not ready for any more complicated meals. It's your time to relax and enjoy, at least, one day off.

Well, I'll tell you that's the way it is around here. New Years's is a time to just kick back and enjoy the day--without having to worry about a lot of preparation and work.

After all, there are a lot of football games on the tube that you might like to enjoy with your family. That's how our day will be spent.

However, if football isn't your thing then you might spend the day just curled up with a good book--and there's not a darn thing wrong with that.

But, everyone still has to eat. Gotta feed the machine no matter what.

The problem is how to do it without wearing yourself out doing so.

IT'S EASY!

You might like to do as we will be doing here at the 'ole homestead. We will simply be setting out platters of assorted goodies--and allowing everyone to help themselves. Saves a lot of work for us--and lets us simply relax and enjoy the day.

We'll have one platter with assorted cold cuts--Ham, Turkey, Bologna, and two or three kinds of Cheese. Alongside that will be all the other fixin's for sandwiches. You know the kind of stuff I mean. Mustard, Mayo, Lettuce, Sliced Tomatoes and maybe a few pickles. Don't forget to have a couple of kinds of Bread--your choice of Wheat, White, Rye, or Pumpernickle. Simply tell your guests--or family--to help themselves while you relax.

Of course, to save clean up time, you'll want to furnish some paper plates for everyone to use. After all, nobody wants to face a sink full of dirty dishes on this Holiday.

Alongside the sandwich materials, you might want to put out another platter of sliced veggies and a couple of kinds of dips. We'll be having Carrot Sticks, Cucumber Wedges, Tomato Wedges, and some cut up Broccoli and Cauliflower flowerlets. We'll side all this with some Ranch Style and Bleu Cheese Dressings and a few forks--just in case someone doesn't want to use their fingers.
