Thanksgiving Recipes on the Web

Thanksgiving Recipe Websites I don't know about all of you, but Thanksgiving certainly snuck up on me this year! The Web is a wonderland of new (and traditional) holiday recipes. Here's a few that offer complete menus (some give handy printable shopping lists as well) and a few options for single courses, in case you get stuck at the last minute not being able to find Aunt Martha's pumpkin pie recipe!

Epicurious has gathered recipes from Bon Appetit and Gourmet magazine along geographical/historical theme lines: you can make dishes inspired by Colonial Philiadelphia, for example. I think I'm going to try the Balsalmic Glazed Pearl Onions from the Virginia menu. Oh! And it includes pheasant recipes for those that are feeling particularly adventurous this holiday. http://www.epicurious.com/e_eating/e04_t...

The folks at Butterball are willing to help with more than just the turkey! (Although they do seem to have some good ideas for the leftovers.) Popular chef Bobby Flay contributes to this page. http://www.butterball.com/main_canvas.js... Butterball Turkey Recipes

Vegan Thanksgiving For those following a strict vegan diet, or just trying to cook something festive for someone else who is, http://www.boutell.com/vegetarian/Thanks... could come in terribly handy. Vegan gravy and pumpkin pie, for example.

Feeling like you really want to have an authentic menu? Pilgrim Hall Museum has old (and perhaps not the easiest thing to follow) recipes. But very interesting. http://www.pilgrimhall.org/thanksrec.htm

For a complete menu for 12, and a guide for how to organize your time, the ladies at Woman's Day will fill the gap. http://www.womansday.com/xp6/WomansDay/c...

Blackened Turkey, anyone? http://www.night.net/thanksgiving/Black-... (This sounds good, but perhaps not to everyone's taste.)

Dressing versus Stuffing? Cornbread or Oyster? These websites might help you make up your mind: Food TV's Cornbread Dressing http://www.foodtv.com/foodtv/recipe/0,62...

For a spicier version, you might want to consider Cornbread, Andouille and Celery Root Dressing: http://www.gumbopages.com/food/veg/cornb...

For a traditional Eastern Shore Oyster Stuffing: http://www.esva.net/ghotes/stuffing1.htm

What about the potatoes? My family likes a ton of mashed potatoes at the holidays, so I know what I'm making! But if you're not sure, maybe these sites will help:

For a copycat version of Bennigan's Garlic Mashed Potatoes: http://webm839b.ntx.net/copykat/35.html

Potatoes Au Gratin: http://homehearth.virtualave.net/potaugr...

Holiday Potato Casserole from About.com http://southernfood.about.com/library/re...

A friend of mine used to make a version of this sweet potato casserole every holiday--sounds a little goody, but it's delicious, and sure to please kids! http://www.post-gazette.com/food/1999102...

This Cranberry Sauce Recipe sounds wonderful, and sophisticated, with port and orange liquor added: http://www.camellia.org/kitchen/cranberr...

For a lower calorie/fat version of Pumpkin pie, this one looks like a good bet: http://www.foodandhealth.com/pumpkinpie....
