By: Dr. Donald Houston copyright 2005 Reviewing books can be a tedious chore or it can become an adventure. My outlook is that if I read it and like it, then I want to share it. With that outlook in mind I have reviewed the following twenty-five cookbooks that cover most of the spectrum of what is considered to be Russian cuisine. In truth there are some 150+ distinct separate ethnologies combined with a number of sub-cultures that exist in what used to be the Rus & the Soviet Union. This collection of books is to be found in my library of cookbooks. Several are autographed by the authors, many of whom I have met. All are excellent books covering the subject at hand, Russian Cooking, very well. What I look for in a cookbook are the following: 1. Concise descriptions In the collection reviewed herein you will find well-written, interesting and useful cookbooks that can make your cooking head for a new and decidedly delicious direction. Use the recipes to make your family, your friends and your guests enjoy a gustatory journey into the delectable and exciting world of Russian Cuisines. These cookbooks combined with thousands of recipes gathered from all over the former Soviet are my basis for being able to delve into the adventure of cooking from an exotic culture. Hopefully you, too, will use at least one of the great books in the near future to begin your journey into the realms of Russian Cuisines. http://forums.delphiforums.com/globalcui... With all that being said, let us begin the wonderful journey into this fascinating and exotic world of new, different and highly esteemed foods. Please to the Table: The Russian Cookbook This particular cookbook is one of what I consider the "trilogy" of necessary Russian cookbooks to have and use if you are a serious follower of Russian cuisine. It's well written with generous amounts of Russian lore, culture, customs and attitudes interspersed throughout the book. Anya has presented us with an excellent window to Russian cooking, Russian cuisine and more importantly, the Russian soul in this tome of knowledge.
