After living in California, known for their great produce, weather and environmental causes, I started being a little more conscious of where my food was coming from. The problem is that there is so much information about pesticides, additives, preservatives, hormones, colorings and toxins; it can make you so overwhelmed, why bother living a healthier life? With "Fresh Choices", the authors have done all the research for you and help you make a more knowledgeable decision in regards to the food you purchase to eat!

The authors of this book define those scientific terms used to describe food processing so that the average person can understand it and help them select healthier foods for their family. They explain about the toxins, pesticides, hormones and more that are contained in our foods. The explanations on how each food item is processed is priceless, and will help you realize how much better off you are without these food products. They explain what foods you should buy in lieu of these over-processed and over-produced products. A lot of these products are already available in your supermarket, but if they are not, then the authors provide you with a suitable substitute, such as, instead of choosing Atlantic Cod, you should choose Alaskan Pollock, as it contains less toxins. Not only does this book offer the best information in providing healthier foods, it also offers 100 delicious, easy-to-prepare recipes for some of the best foods you will ever make! Examples of some of the delicious recipes, that you too can try, are: Jamaican Pork Chops with Pineapple Black Bean Salsa, Sautéed Chicken with Sage and Gingered Plums, or Thai Fettuccine Primavera.

Throughout the book, key individuals are highlighted to show you how they have participated and contributed to the organic food industry, either publicly or quietly behind the scenes. These individuals inspire me to want to be a better person. Paul Newman's daughter is one of the individuals who is highlighted in this book.

For the safest, purest meats, fish, dairy products and produce, look to "Fresh Choices: More than 100 Easy Recipes for Pure Food When You Can't Buy 100% Organic" to be your guide. If you are looking for a gift for the shopper and cook of the house, then this would be an excellent gift.
