Share The Wealth

Christmas is coming, yes indeed. There's no stopping that holiday train. Santa is out front ringing his bell. The last thing you're probably thinking about is clutter. In fact, even if it's staring you right in the face you're probably doing your best to flat out ignore it. You can close the door on it and think about it after the turkey has cooled and the leftovers have been tucked into the freezer. But isn't that what you did last year? The New Year came and you focused on exercising off the extra around your middle section. Then as the weather got warmer your focus changed and the great outdoors beckoned you. Summer vacations and the fall harvest of television premieres kept you occupied. As you dug your way through to the Halloween decorations you sensed that the Christmas season would be shortly upon you and once again you closed the door on clutter. Do you want to follow the same track this year? Think about it. While you were out going places, your clutter went nowhere.

There's no better time than Christmas to give to others, and if you clear away the clutter you are actually giving yourself a sense of freedom. Even if you don't have the time right now to box up goodies to donate, you can still take the first step and write up a plan of action, separate from your New Year's resolutions. A plan of action isn't a wish list. It should detail each step necessary to reach your goal, along with the times and dates you are committing to.

A tradition in our home during the holiday season, December 26th to be exact, is to box up the decorations and clean house. We think of Boxing Day as a day to literally box everything up. Once the tree is down and gifts have found a new place in our home, we pack up Father Christmas with the other ornaments. We move the furniture around and attack the dust bunnies in the corners. We dust the shelves and toss the old, ready for the new. We open all the doors and face the clutter. When January 1st rolls around we've made room for the New Year to begin.

Remember, even if you don't have the time to face clutter while you are entertaining, you can still attack the clutter with a plan of action. Don't leave those doors closed forever.
