Growing Into The SpaceIt took days/months/years to rid that spare room of those boxes of clutter. There is a beautiful floor uncovered, fresh walls surrounding a bounty of open space. The window is a shower of light. A sense of calmness welcomes you through the door. Do you find yourself stopping but unsure what it is you're feeling? It could be that this new found space is unfamiliar and the urge to store some things "just for a little while" overpowering. It will take time to appreciate your new space. Like a game of hide and seek, my habit with clutter is to move it from one room to another. I collect boxes just for this purpose, in all sizes. It's a never ending diversion from the real task at hand. My boxes stack like building blocks, which eventually come crashing down. The challenge of having a room clutter free is that when you need a new home for lost items you can't help but stand in the open space and wonder if you could just put a box over in the corner until you get the time to go through it. STOP! Don't even think it! That box is bait and will draw other clutter towards it like a fish to a worm. Think of that spare room as a room of worship. Take time each day and stand in the light. Notice how easy it is to get to the window and how at peace you are without the clutter. If you like to read or write in a journal, do it in this room. If you need to plan your next day, don't do it in the middle of your hectic kitchen where you will only be distracted from your scheduling. Find the time to enjoy what you have created. Learn to appreciate what the space means to you because that will help that space grow and spread throughout your home. Once you've realized the value of your space, you will sense what it can do for you; be open, surround you with freedom, fill you with peace and show you respect. You will feel the evolution and a sense of your growth will be undeniably present. It will be instinct you'll be relying on to control the clutter and the habit of denying yourself the pleasure of a clutter free room will be lost in your sense of calm.
