Change Is Never Easy But It Is GoodWhen friends or guests or the mail person or even a solicitor comes to our front door, I like to know that what they see from their line of vision at the front entry is simple and inviting. When you look into the living room you see our basic furnishings. We actually prefer to call the space a ‘sitting' room because there isn't a television in the room, no toys are allowed and definitely no clutter, just simple lines and comfortable seating. I know that if other areas of my home are taken over by the rush of our hectic life, I can still retire to the sitting room and take a breath of simplicity. Recently we took on a small renovation project in the main bedroom of our home. First of all, I must admit that we were very naive to think that any renovation project is small. We have been camped out in our sitting room for three weeks now and the painting project is still not finished. We have a bedframe standing up against one wall and a box spring up against another wall. The cat actually enjoys sleeping on the top of the box spring because no one can bother him up there. At least we have one happy ‘camper'. Our mattress is in the middle of the floor and that's where we've slept for the last three weeks. The view from my front entry is no longer simple and organized. If you tried to come and visit me now I would not even let you through the front door! This phase will not last eternally, even though in the midst of it, I certainly feel as though it might. One day our bed will return to it's place in the bedroom and the dresser will slide back from the hallway to it's home near the bed. Order will reign again and we'll be able to sleep in a deep blue sea of colour in our newly painted room complete with hardwood floors instead of carpeting. That's the way with everything in life. There is an ebb and a flow. If today the view is cluttered while you swim through a transformation, don't fret, the tides of change have a cycle and when that course is completed, order will return bringing with it something better after washing away something that you no longer need. It may take time with some changes in life to see it that way, but eventually we do all get there.
