Fear Is a Seven-Letter WordI just can't seem to shake the notion that fear and clutter are synonymous. The thought came to me while I was out riding with my husband on the weekend on his motorcycle. I ride "pillion" as a passenger. When you are cruising along down a quiet secondary highway, and there is no radar to monitor your speed, it's easy to let your head clear while the sun warms the top of your helmet and the wind whistles through your vents. With the peaceful countryside surrounding us, all I had to do was hold on and let the ideas flow. The one thought that kept coming back to me was that fear had the power to control my life, and clutter ruled with the same domination. Fear took shape by manifesting itself as clutter. That seemed like a simple concept to understand. Could it be a simple matter to address? Could I recognize the fear and eliminate the clutter? I have certainly tried to do that, so what was the missing quotient that I needed? As we headed back into the city and worked our way through the "twisties" of the river valley on the bike, I became more focused on the leans we were taking in the corners and opened my eyes wider to see what the road held for us. I realized I couldn't just sit back comfortably and let the world pass by. I had to see what was ahead so I could be prepared for the bike to lean or to know if I needed to support my hands on the gas tank to keep myself from sliding forwards when we came to a halt. Being ready for whatever we were driving towards kept my fear at bay. I was able to let the thrill fill me up and fuel my excitement. What if I drove my life with the same kind of power, choosing not to have fear as a vehicle for everything I experienced? What a ride it would be to have the road unfold for me with no hidden turns or unexpected delays. I guess for me, perhaps, the missing quotient might be more rides on the open road because when I'm out there and free, my head is clear and my life has order. Next week I will be listing some of the helpful books I've read regarding fear and clutter as well as listing some recommended sites.
