Positive Versus NegativeClutter will always exist in one form or another, either in your home or in your heart, but clutter can be managed. It can also be hidden, ignored, or attacked. Clutter can teach or overwhelm. What you see is certainly what you get when it comes to clutter. So what do you see? The positive attributes of clutter can be many. Your clutter tells your story. It is a tale that needs to be dug through, but very revealing nonetheless. Clutter will eventually force all of us to grow in some way or another, and I don't mean into a bigger house either. I've learned that I need my clutter for security in times of trouble. It's something I can hold onto and own. Once I realized that, I saw the need to let go and look at the real issues that frightened me. I was wasting energy worrying about never having enough notepads or buttons. That clutter was hiding my real fear. Another benefit of clutter is that it acts as a reminder. It's something that can physically manifest itself. It's hard to ignore when you trip over it trying to get out of the room. Even thoughts can clutter up a state of relaxation. Once the positive side of clutter can be seen, it is so much easier to deal with the negative side. Clutter overwhelms. It has to if it's going to control you. It takes over your desk so you can't work. It forms thoughts to distract you. It parks in the garage to trick you into thinking it's gone. Eventually all that clutter becomes tiresome and unwelcome. That's when the best opportunity comes to grab hold and take authority. Clutter is a game of tug-of-war, between good and bad. Ultimately, that challenge will make us stronger and wiser. It doesn't matter how long you fight, how well you face the battle, or how tired you feel. What matters is the outcome. I welcome my clutter now because I understand it. I know that when the papers on my desk start to pile up, it's time to take a break and reorganize. I will be able to think clearer and work more productively. When my heart gets full of unsureness, and I see that there is a lot that I am not dealing with, I stop and take a break, again to reorganize. My story of clutter is always a work in progress. How about yours?
