Doves 2000: An Overview

The nominees have been named, the host has been picked, and the date has been set for the 31st Annual Dove Awards. When the details were originally announced, the initial reaction of CCM fans was disbelief. The poor choice of hosts the past few years had left many fans wondering when this nightmare would end. Hopes rose slightly when Robin Parrish of About.com decided to make a petition to get Mark Lowry as host of the Dove Awards. These hopes were dashed, however, when Mark Lowry was not the announced host despite over 1,000 fans signed the petition. Instead, Kathie Lee Gifford of Regis and Kathie Lee will host the show on April 20. This leads to one question: Where is the GMA leading CCM? It seems that the GMA is trying to solicit non-Christians more than they are trying to please the existing crowd of Christian fans. Can this effort succeed? Only time will tell, but I fear the GMA's efforts will not succeed any more than they have in previous years.
