Mezzamorphis: A Glimpse at the Story Behind the Album

© Jason Ewert

In this last part of the Mezzamorphis series I am going to tell you about the stories behind the album, the facts about the songs, and what things happened during release dates. I hope you enjoy this part. If you have any questions about the new album you can email me. Thanks & God bless!

The Different Versions Believe it or not, three different versions of Mezzamorphis were released. The original release, by Furious? Records, contained the original twelve songs for the album. This was released April 12th. The Sparrow Records release, intended for the CCM Market, had a total of fourteen songs. Jesus' Blood and Deeper 99 were the two extras which were placed on this album which was released June 8th. The third release, which was released on the same day as the Sparrow release, was by Virgin Records and it contained twelve songs just like the original UK release. However, Kiss Your Feet was left off this CD and in it's place was 'Deeper 99'. I hope you're still with me after that confusing paragraph. If so, please continue reading...

The Selling-Out Issue This album had many people wondering if the d:boys were "selling-out" (giving up their beliefs). Some fans were not pleased with the Mezzamorphis d:tour and wrote letters to the d:mailing list about this. They said that they believed Delirious? were letting their fame get to their heads, etc. Martin wrote a letter about this and it can be viewed here. Personally, I believe that the band is still going strong with their faith in Jesus. Keep going up boys, we're right behind you!

The Story Behind the Songs

The Mezzanine Floor This song is really about where d: are right now. Especially the second verse which reads, If I go they say I'm wrong, If I stay there'll be no song. This is referring to the fact that some fans want them to stay with the King of Fools and Cutting Edge styles but if d: does that their music will become boring.

Gravity The first song which has lyrics penned by Jon Thatcher. I think that this song was kind of inspired by Kenneth Copeland's novel Girlfriend in a Coma. The song talks about a person trying to do what is right but the world is pulling at him.

Blindfold As many of you will know Stew's wife Sarah had a miscarriage during the summer of 1997. The song Summer of Love was inspired by this fact. Blindfold is another song which talks about the pain which Stew and Sarah had to go through.
