Album: Live and in the Can
Artist: delirious?
Producer: delirious?
Record Label: Furious?\Sparrow
When Sparrow Records decided to release Live and in the Can on November 3rd instead of sometime in January '99 I was very happy. Finally we were going to get a taste of a delirious? concert. But if this is the way that you look at it then I'm afraid you are going have to wait until d:tour Live 1997 comes out in North America (which it probably won't). What delirious? has done with Live and in the Can is take the best of gigs from January to August '96 and put them together. If you think that Live and in the Can is a lousy CD because of the way they did it then I think that you may have a little surprise. Live and in the Can contains 17 songs total. Nine of them are not really songs but "taking it wherever it goes" and the other eight are really songs. Now if you are just going to listen to the real songs then you are going to miss the main part of the album. We all know that d: speciality is taking a mood and running away with it. In the "taking it wherever it goes" parts you really sense that these guys are sincere in what they do. They are not like other people in the music industry who are just a whole bunch of fakers and have humanist theology - these guys believe what they sing. The thing that affected me most was in the "taking wherever it goes" parts. You know from those parts that they are worshipping God. In track No. 7 Martin Smith sings, "Jesus. I love to sing of Jesus." Just by listening to that you know it is not something they do to get the crowd riled up. With all of thei6r Cutting Edge hits like "Did You Feel the Mountains Tremble", "I'm Not Ashamed", and "Obsession" plus one snippet from King of Fools which hadn't been released yet when this album was recorded it is truly a great album. And when the crowd sings with them in some of the songs it sounds very good and adds a kind of worshipful feeling to the CD. The renditions may sound better on the CD but with they d: made this CD the fill-ins make it sound just as good if not better. The overall question is: Was it worth the 24.99* you have to pay for it? Answer: Definitely. Go To Page: 1 2
