Jon Thatcher has been part of delirious? for longer then it would seem. His three older sisters are married to Tim, Stew, and Martin and when he was a teenager he would sit and listen to them talk about what they were going to do with "Cutting Edge." But it wasn't listening to these conversations that shaped him to be the bass player and band member of delirious? On the contrary, it was his early life which prepared him for this role.
School was not a problem for Jon as it was for other band members. He was a hard working student whom the teachers enjoyed teaching. Jon's faith did not make problems in school - Jon was already considered "different" because he liked drawing and listening to bands which most people didn't know about. Adding one more "difference" to Jon Thatcher didn't change anything. As I have already mentioned, Jon would fill up his time listening to music. The people he listened to included Nik Kershaw and Run DMC. Jon had known from an early age the bass was the instrument for him. At the age of thirteen Jon split his time playing bass and skateboarding. Once he had gotten the basics down for playing the bass he entered as many bands as it was possible. Even though he did this he was still the least experienced member of delirious? Jon was first asked to join the band as a bass player for gigs. Whenever a gig came up they asked Jon to play and he said yes. The finalization of him joining the band came when he was asked to play on "Cutting Edge Fore." This is also when Jon decided to go full time with delirious? When he asked for time off from art school his tutor told him to choose either the band and art. Of course, Jon chose the band even though his tutor thought he was insane. Go To Page: 1 2
