Shake It Up Baby
The wounded children often appear in Helnwein pictures with comic book characters, especially cheerful ducks. This cartoon aspect seems to give the message that the grim universe portrayed is somehow redeemable, as if despite the abuse, horror and repression, the soul can still smile and find joy in the sublimely ridiculous.
