Passionate About Passifloras

Passiflora on Lamppost
There are several varieties of Passiflora, each more lovely than the next:

  • P. alatocaerulea (sometimes P. pfordtii) is evergreen or semi-evergreen, depending on temperatures. Its fragrant flowers are white with shades of pink and lavender and the crown is deep blue or purple.

  • P. 'Amethyst' is an evergreen passion flower with showy lavender flowers sporting a deeper purple crown.

  • P. citrina has smallish, delicate flowers in greenish white with a white crown.

  • P. 'Incense' is deciduous, dying to the ground once temperatures remain below 0 degrees F. for an extended period. Its violet flowers are large with thin, wavy petals that look crimped and a wonderfully fragrant sweet-pea scent.

  • P. vitifolia breaks the pattern of lavender/purple toned flowers and sports bright red flowers nestled in deep green leaves.
