Scratchy reports and unconfirmed studies had lead to a common belief in consumers that mobile phone radiations caused cancer. This radiation hazard had led to a radiation-shield scams where manufacturers started selling devices claiming to offer protection against harmful radiations emitted by mobile phones. A few weeks ago there were reports in the newspaper that the Ericsson, Nokia and Motorola, the three largest manufacturers of mobile phones had patented brain-shields to protect their consumers from radiations emitted from mobile phones. This created panic among consumers as it meant an indirect acceptance by mobile phone manufacturers that mobile phone devices did in fact have some adverse effect on the users against which they needed protection.
"Ericsson has denied a newspaper report that the company, along with Nokia and Motorola, was patenting devices to reduce the risk of brain tumors among users. A report says that the three companies had invented new components to shield users from radiation emissions from handsets." (Source: Ericsson Denies Cancer Shield) "But for those who are convinced there is a danger from cell-phone radiation, they can protect themselves without spending a penny on a shield. As NewsMax.com has reported, all you need is to use a cell phone equipped with nothing more sophisticated than an earpiece that will allow you to listen to calls without holding the antenna near your head. That's the advice of syndicated columnist Martin Schram, who has co-written the book Cell Phones: Invisible Hazards in the Wireless Age with epidemiologist Dr. George Carlo. The authors are convinced that the hazards of cell-phone radiation are real, and they cite convincing evidence in support of their belief." (Source: Newsmax.com) The question still remains "Is answering a call gonna kill me?" I don't see a clear answer coming up in the near future. Maybe 5-10 years done the line we may see a report that undeniably establishes that mobile phones are safe or it may prove otherwise. Until then I would prefer to use a "hands free kit".
