I am happy to return to writing for this page just as the ADR Cyberweek begins. For those of you who are new readers of this column, ADR Cyberweek is an annual event sponsored by the University of Massachusetts Center for Information Technology and Dispute Resolution. The online conference started today and will continue through March 2, 2001. It includes a wide array of information about dispute resolution offered through discussions, simulations and demonstrations, a library, and special events. The site can be found at http://www.disputes.net/cyberweek2001/in...
Although the conference is free and open to all, and the site can be fully navigated by guests, in order to participate in the discussion groups, you must register and receive a password. The Simulations and Demonstrations segment of the site is particularly interesting. You can observe simulated mediatons and actually try out different kinds of online dispute resolution techniques through role playing as one of the parties to a dispute. For those of you who have never actually participated in a mediation, such "hands on" experience can be as edifying as it is entertaining. Dispute resolution students will find the Special Events section and the Library section quite useful, I believe. The Special Events page includes online courses, and on varying days, a Conflict Resolution ONLY Version of Yahoo, a Conflict Resolution ONLY Version of Google, a Publication Clipping Service, and Major Conflict Updates. The Library includes scholarly articles and online ADR guides and newletters. Some of the services are paid subscriptions, but all are presented free of charge during the conference. Do check out the conference and have fun. Until next time... Go To Page: 1
