Yet another macro security hole. Any file in the TEMP directory, or the one named by the Tools|Options|FileLocations|AutoRecoverFiles setting in MS Word, and named with an .asd extension, will be automatically opened the next time you start Word. If there is an AutoOpen macro in the file, it will be run without any notification.

Microsoft has come to the rescue, to save us all from the dreaded cookie. Unfortunately (you could see this coming, couldn't you?), the anti-cookie program that Microsoft is promoting doesn't quite deal with all cookies--only the ones not registered with Microsoft.

A buffer overflow problem has been found with Adobe Acrobat reader. This is fairly serious, since the PDF format is widely used on many Web sites, and many people may have the Acrobat reader plugin installed without really being aware of it.

Have you been sent a PayPal payment? Check it out carefully. A number of people have received email messages telling them that they have received a payment, and to register at the site. While registering, they are, of course, asked for a credit card number to which to credit the payment. Unfortunately, the site they are being directed to is http://www.paypaI.com/. Sharp-eyed readers will note that the last letter before the .com is not a lower case letter "L," but an upper case letter "I." paypai.com is registered to someone in South Ural who appears to be harvesting credit card numbers.
