Computer Security Weekly, June 12, 2000Symantec's Systemworks 2000 Anti Virus is one of the ones that will check your incoming email. Fair enough. However, it's not 100% accurate: recently a RISKS reader had an alarm go off because of a source code example of an email virus that came through on a security mailing list. Even worse, Systemworks quarantined the whole incoming mail file because of the one message. Even worse, it wouldn't let it go. Technical support at Symantec told him the file was lost, and couldn't be recovered. MacOS X, the next version of the Mac operating system, will also include a version of Kerberos. Let's hope they do a better job than Microsoft. I'm still not sure whether the Microsoft Outlook patch is officially released yet: it's been delayed a number of times.
