I've been playing strategy games pretty much since their inception. There is little new or surprising in the genre and often many games are so rehashed as to be dull. I was worried this might be true with S.W.I.N.E.
I had little to fear from a game called S.W.I.N.E. I found myself in control of an army of Rabbits. These weren't ordinary bunnies they were French Hares. Le Lapins, I suppose. I had to defend Carrot City against an army of Pigs - hence the name S.W.I.N.E. S.W.I.N.E. plays out like many other strategy games, except in this demo you don't manufacture resources. You carry gas tanks and repair units around with you by hooking them up to appropriate vehicles and moving them as you move your forces. Leave one of the trailers behind and risk running out of gas or running out of ammo at the worst possible moment. The graphics within S.W.I.N.E. are quite good. There is rippling water that looks very realistic. The units are well detailed, as are the hills and other terrain. Overall, S.W.I.N.E. presents a very pretty picture. While the game presents like so many other real time strategies, biggest difference lies in the characters and the vocalizations. These French Bunnies are the funniest things I have heard in a computer game in a long time. When recording these voices the developer was looking for funny as opposed to sounding right. These Rabbits sound as cheesy as any cheap cartoon might when trying to imitate a Frenchman speaking Anglais! The only thing this warren of warrant officers is missing is the little beret, actually I think one of the Rabbits was wearing one! During battles you have the French Bunnies and what appears to be German Pigs yelling back and forth at each other and it's hilarious! I'd lay some lines on you here but it would lose something in the translation. As for the strategy game, it's pretty good. Some of your units have special abilities, such as your tanks that can dig in for added defensive capabilities. There is no micro-management of resources, basically you have to use what you have. There are ways to order a few more units but you cannot manufacture them a la every other RTS game in history! If you come across this demo and are a strategy fan who is looking for a laugh download S.W.I.N.E., you won't be sorry. Go To Page: 1 2
