Demo Review: Deer Avenger 4

Does the world really need this game? I suppose that as long as someone is buying them then it's someone's duty to produce them. These games while not necessary for the hard-core gaming crowd are seemingly necessary to the occasional gamer. The occasional gaming market is huge, these kinds of Deer hunting games sell more than your average 3D shooter or RTS. Sad but true.

Deer Avenger 4 is the fourth in the Deer Avenger series. You play Bambo, rogue male seeking revenge on all those hopeless and hapless redneck deer hunters. In the demo you are outfitted with an automatic weapon and an endless supply of so-called human calls. Some of these human calls are cute: " Eureka! A cure for stupid!" " Moonshine. Get yer moonshine." Don't like either of those then try, " Get yer painless corrective dentistry here." Sure, these are stupid but they just might be the best parts of the game, some I found hilarious. They are certainly a break from the tedium.

As Bambo, it's a cross between Rambo and Bambi -sheesh, you're hunting the former hunters and well that's pretty much it. Wandering around the forests looking for a hunter to ...well, hunt. It's all pretty dull and pretty worthless.

Graphically the game is OK. The game looks much better if you can bump up the resolution. 640 by 480 is just rancid but bump it up to almost anything higher, the higher the better, and Deer Avenger 4 looks pretty good. It's no Max Payne but for $20.00 what do you want?

Sounds? Well, they exist and are decent though nothing to write home about. Guns sound like guns and Bambo sounds rough and ready. What more could you ask for from a deer? I did, however, find the sound of Bambo walking through water annoying and less than realistic. Often the sounds of our hero walking and rustling leaves would carry on well after he had come to a stop. Considering everything that is hardly worth crying about.

Overall, Deer Avenger 4 is a waste of a download. Hard-core gamers will want to stay as far away from this piece of trash as possible. Casual gamers will find the Deer Avenger 4 demo to be pretty, accessible and a whole load of fun. Be glad you're not one of them.
