Review: BikerZ IIMuch to my surprise, I enjoyed this free little game. Yeah, you read that right, it's free. Considering the cost I was surprised by this game in many ways. Firstly, the game was fun. If you've played Carmagedeon you'll have an idea what is going on here. You are riding a souped up chopper around the city looking for ways to make some cash to upgrade your machine and its' weapons. Along the way you are able to run over innocent civilians and not so innocent cops who are intent on using their weapons to stop you. So you have to see a guy who lays out the plan and how much cash you'll get if you complete the mission successfully and within the time limit. Do this and you'll get the cash you need to upgrade your cycle. Several upgrades and you'll have yourself one mean machine! Controls are easy via the keyboard and the default keys are some of the better combos you'll find. While the controls are easy enough if you keep in mind that you're riding a Harley you'll soon see that the physics are not of this earth. Hitting walls head-on does damage to a damage meter but you're able to keep on riding that hog until your damage meter says differently. Put aside the silly physics model and you'll be fine, it's a question of suspending your belief - it is a game after all, people. Graphically, the game is pretty cool. It's not perfect, pop in is a big problem as are any number of graphical anomalies. However, when you keep in mind that the game is free things aren't that bad. Aurally I was somewhat amused by the sound of bodies squishing as I ran through them with my chopper. OK, I'll admit to being a little sick and I'll acknowledge that the sounds won't appeal to everyone, they are actually kind of cheesy and comical. The sounds of the bullets and other sounds are merely OK. Ii found myself turning the music option off in very short order, however. If the idea of being a renegade, outlaw biker who spends his time running over innocents and going on missions for cold hard cash, then this is for you. It's available on the net and is free. BikerZ II is not perfect, there are some serious visual problems but it is free. Keep in mind that this little game is free and you'll have a good time.
