Review of Get the Bunny Demo

Data Becker, a German company, recently released the real-time strategy game America. That game proved my notion: just because you can, doesn’t mean you should. The game was pretty much a wash out on almost every level. It brought nothing new to the genre, and didn’t even do some of the standard things correct. Hot on the heels of that dismal release is “ Get the Bunny!”

I didn’t hold out much hope for this thing based on the title alone and I was right to be concerned. However, I did download the demo and was surprised at the amount of crap you can cram into a 4 meg download. Data Becker is trying to cash in on the ever-popular hunting series; deer hunting, dino hunting, mole hunting,....and now bunny hunting.

The story has something to do with your character, a farmer, trying to rid his farm of a plague of bunnies. There is a never-ending stream of these valiant bunnies pressing their luck and ravaging your fields. Well, you have had enough. You pick up your trusty shotgun and begin the carnage.

This is where the problems begin, OK so the problems began with that lame excuse of a story. This is a first person shooter but your character has grown roots and can only swing around in a circle. You shoot wrascally wrabbits and swing yourself in a circle. To add to the fun you can also bag some rats and a few chickens.

So that’s the game, turn around in a circle while wasting as many rabbits as you can. Sounds like fun, huh? Nope, not only does it not sound like fun, it isn’t fun. What was those silly Germans thinking?

The game is 3D accelerated but that doesn’t mean a whole lot if the graphics were one by a 10-year-old. Not only are the rabbits poorly drawn but the buildings are atrocious and well, artistically this game is quite the mess! 3D acceleration does not and could not help this game any.

Maybe there is something decent in the sound department? Maybe Saddam Hussein will join the boy scouts, too!

If you come across this game in a store steer clear away! If you encounter the demo on the Internet surf away...fast! There are plenty of fine demos to download and spend some time with but this isn’t one of them.
