Online game debut coincides with that of movie

Recently, news of movies based on computer games was addressed in this forum. In a total flip-flop, we'll focus on computer games based on movies instead, and one movie/game in particular.

On May 20, 1998, arguably the most anticipated movie of the summer was released to theaters all over North America. The public got their first real glimpse of Godzilla. Godzilla, released to a record number of theaters on its opening day, was created by the same people who made the blockbuster movie Independence Day.

To coincide with this historical debut, Centropolis Interactive announced the release of the online-only game Godzilla Online. In an unprecedented move, the Godzilla computer game was made available to the public the same day the Godzilla film was, May 20.

Godzilla Online is based on the disaster movie with the same name. According to GamesMania Godzilla is "...a 3D isometric action game set in arenas modeled after locations in the movie, the Godzilla game will allow free-for-all and team-based missions." Godzilla Online is only multiplayer, and it's only available one place. Game Storm, an online multiplayer gaming site, has the exclusive rights to the game. To get more information on the game or to sign up to play Godzilla, visit Game Storm's site at http://www.gamestorm.com.

I haven't played the game yet, but it should be huge. It's been in the works for over a year. It was developed by Mythic Entertainment, makers of other games based on movies including Aliens and Starship Troopers, and Centropolis Interactive. If you have positive or negative things to say about Godzilla Online, begin a discussion on it. Also, in general are games based on movies great, mediocre, or downright bad? Include your favorite or most hated movie-game with your response.
