It just depends on how you look at it.

Not all people are tightwads with money, but most sure like deals on anything they buy — clothes, food, automobiles and so on. But people who play computer games regularly are always on the lookout for great bargains on brilliant games. I'm no different. A while back I even wrote an article on the subject. However, since that time, it's been a rarity for me to find any deals or giveaways of computer games. Until now . . .

Now that the holidays are over, many gamers will be stuck to their computers until the spring thaw, playing newly acquired games. Activision has come to add more fun games to everyone's collection. To help celebrate the Shanghai series of games' 12th anniversary, Activision is giving away Game Vault III to anyone who purchases Shanghai: Dynasty until Jan. 31. Game Vault III consists of 57 games for the PC . . . 57! All of them are arcade classics, many from the Atari, including Pitfall!, Kaboom, River Raid, Little Computer People, Hacker and Breakout. To take advantage of this great offer, purchasers of Shanghai must send in their receipt, the UPC code, and $3 U.S. to:

Shanghai: Dynasty Free Game Offer
P.O. Box 52981
Dept. 13004
Phoenix, AZ 85072-2981

To state the obvious, this is a great deal. Not only do consumers get 57 classic games, many that will never lose their freshness and fun, but they also get Shanghai. This wonderful puzzle game consists of five separate games. There are four tile matching games for all walks of life, plus the always addictive mahjongg. So, for the price of one game, buyers of this collection get 58 games — or 62, if each element of Shanghai is included. I know I don't have to tell you this is one of greatest offers in computer gaming for a spell. Any puzzle enthusiast or classic game nut should definitely add these games to their collection.
