CGN (An Acronymn for the Ages)

The news since the beginning of August, courtesy of CGN, Computer Gaming News:

Asheron's Call
A game that seems to have been in development since the Beginning is due out sometime in November. Microsoft will release the online-only role-playing game, "Asheron's Call" on the MSNT Gaming Zone. If you wish to be the first inside this immense virtual world, you'll have a chance if you attend the annual GenCon Game Fair.

Alpha Centauri scenario
More goodies for strategy-loving fans. The makers of "Sid Meier's Alpha Centauri," Firaxis, have announced a new scenario for their already-classic game. The scenario, entitled "The Race for Wealth" is now available at Alpha Centauri's website - http://www.alphacentauri.com - Download it now and increase the time already well-spent playing this addicting game.

ELSPA
Piracy isn't just for computer-savvy teenagers anymore. According to the European Leisure Software Publishers Association (ELSPA), 80% of those convicted of computer game piracy are "involved in drugs, prostitution, theft, or other [crimes]." The ELSPA launched a new campaign in the United Kingdom comprised of billboards with anti-piracy messages. Their goal: to "change hearts and minds" about piracy. Unfortunately, they say the public doesn't share their attitude. What do you, the reader, think about piracy? Does the public really not care about this issue?

Half-Life: Opposing Force
Calling all level-creators: Sierra wants you! Create a level for the upcoming "Half-Life: Opposing Force" and you could win $1,000 US, and be listed in the game credits. The three best levels, chosen by a team of judges from Valve and Gearbox Software, will win the prizes mentioned above. For more details check out http://www.won.net/lounge/contests/oppos...

Tactical Manager 2
The following tidbit of news may have been mangled in the translation. It seems a new software team, Brightstar, has announced a deal with a British football magazine. I assume this is a soccer magazine, not American football. The two companies, Brightstar and FourFourTwo, will work together to create "Tactical Manager 2", a soccer simulation game which puts the player in the position of manager. Of course I may have botched the whole thing with my unsurpassed ignorance, and this is actually American football, but I doubt it.

A final note: I have receive NO response to the recent contest ran here. If you wish to participate, there is still time (until the end of August). Just check out my last article, or in the contest category. The winner gets a GREAT prize, so you're out of luck if you don't even give it a try.
