No contest

It's beem a grueling two weeks for me, mostly because of the unsuccessful installation of a new mother board. This caused significat down time for my computer for the majority of a week. I had planned on starting off a new contest, but that went down the toilet as time twindeled to almost nothing before I had to go off on vacation. I promise, end of the month a contest will be held. In the meanwhile, here's the news:

Mike Grace, employee of Electronic Arts for the past 12 years, will move on to newer (and possibly bigger) things as he quits his job for a position at The 3DO Company. He was most recently in charge of production of Jane's Combat Simulations, an off-shoot of EA. As VP of product development at 3DO, Grace will lead the production of the Army Men series - one that's respected more by consumers than critics. Mike's experience could help the series to even greater sales and a better quality game.

In more Electronic Arts and 3DO news: both companies have reported gains in net income for last quarter. The gaming juggernaut that is EA had revenues of more than $1.2 billion last year, $22 million in the last quarter. 3DO had a net income of $2.6 million, up from losing $6.3 million in the same quarter last year.

In a futher display of respect by the entertainment business towards the computer gaming industry (due perhaps to the money gaming companies are raking in), the National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences has decieded to allow music from computer games to be considered for Grammies in the future. The three catagories open to games are Best Soundtrack, Best Song, and Best Instrumental.

An update to last article's report on Jurrasic Park author, Michael Crichton: his new development team, Timeline Studios, has signed a deal with Eidos. The deal includes publishing rights for Eidos and a long-term investment of cash in Timeline Studios. The money will help jumpstart Timeline as they begin development of a game based on one of Crichton's licenses.
