Part II of the best games of E3

Action

Half-Life: Opposing Force - In the first official add-on to the best game of 1998, the player takes the role of a soldier, not a lovable scientist turned warrior like in the original. Expect more of the same, as the developers are attempting to retain what made last year's game a classic (if it's even close to as good as the original, it will be worth buying). Planned to be included in Opposing Force are seven new weapons, including the barnacle. The barnacle will be similar to a "biological grappling-hook" that allows the player to get to hard to reach places, and even drag enemies towards them.

Prince of Persia 3D - This remake of a classic from long ago puts you in the shoes (slippers?) of a 12th century Persian prince, out to find his kidnapped betrothed. In your way will be assassins, warriors, and puzzles a plenty. More combat will be involved in the game this time around, but platform jumping and puzzle solving skills are still needed. The combat will be featured in fluid 3D graphics, from a third-person view. The camera moves around to the best angle, making it somewhat easier for the gamer.

DS9: The Fallen - After so many, many poor Star Trek games, Deep Space 9: The Fallen may be the first to live up to standards that everyone's always expected. This third-person action game exploits the Unreal engine to its fullest. Settings are dark, realistically lighted by artificial sources. Characters look and act according to their on-screening persona. Make sure to keep tabs on this game, and not give up on it like the rest of the Star Trek based games.

Adventure

Indiana Jones and the Infernal Machine - After conquering the Star Wars universe, LucasArts has decided to turn its hand to another George Lucas staple, Indiana Jones. As Mr. Jones, you must stop the Russians (it's still the Cold War) from getting their hands on a transdimensional gate. The third-person perspective seems to be the standard now for adventure games, even though this is technically an adventure / action game. The graphics are crisp and look fantastic in 3D. Chalk another one up for LucasArts.

Gabriel Knight III: Blood of the Sacred, Blood of the Damned - The third game in the award-winning series will offer plenty of adventuring for anyone who's up for it. You're off to investigate a small town in France, and come across a sticky situation involving a kidnapping, plus religious and political problems atypical of a small European hamlet. Expect great things, both story wise and graphically. Trust the series more than the company distributing it (Sierra).
