Easter Egg Hunts and Angels

Quake-related stuff
Over the Easter Holiday, the second annual "Quake Easter Egg Hunt" was held. Held on Easter Sunday, the online tournament pitted players against each other in deathmatch mode, but with a slight twist. In keeping with the spirit of the holiday, competitors had to collect and return "Easter eggs" spread throughout the levels. Last year's tournament field was about 150 players, and this year they expanded on that number. Cash prizes were offered for the winners. And the results:

1st place - Sabbath
2nd place - Bif
3rd place - bubblegum
4th place - dt|Drifter
5th place - Google
6th place - FRaGaLoT

Requiem
The increasing capability of today's technology is on display in the 3DO Company's Requiem: Avenging Angel, which has just shipped. Requiem "is the first game to achieve 1920 x 1280 resolution at 30 frames per second, the first game to ever run at this high a resolution and be fully playable." Even gamers without state-of-the-art systems will be able to enjoy the dazzling graphics, just not to such an extreme. Not only are the graphics special, so is the game play. This isn't the standard first-person action game. You play the role of angel able to use the powers of heaven and hell against the diverse adversaries found in the game.

More SimCity
Maxis has once again increased the enjoyment people can get out of the blockbuster game, SimCity 3000. Now available on their web site is a feature called CityCam. Gamers can upload, download, or view cities made by others to see how all of us regular city-planner types are designing our cities... Also, the most recent sales report for computer games is out, and the newly released EverQuest has knocked SimCity out of the #1 spot.

Team Fortress
Previously scheduled for a March 26 release, Valve Software's Team Fortress Classic had been delayed to get all the bugs out and put the finishing touches on the final product. Things went according to plan and Half-Life Team Fortress Classic was made available to Half-Life customers April 2 for download.

Now that America's pastime is in full swing, next article's take on baseball games will be right on schedule.
