Follow-up to the movie of the Millenium


LucasArts has announced two of their games will be based on the Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace license: Star Wars: Episode 1 - The Phantom Menace and Star Wars: Episode 1 - Racer. Both will be released at the end of May, about one week after the movie. The Phantom Menace is a combination of action and adventure that's sure to reach a broad market. Racer is based on a sequence in the movie featuring a podrace that pits pod-driving aliens against each other at speeds around 500 MPH. Both games are sure to do spectacularly.

Interactive Magic has a group of games on tap that has a chance to be really great. The wargame Road to Moscow will but the player in control of over 1 million troops, making it one of the grandest war simulations yet. Other features include an Artificial Intelligence that learns from winning strategies it encounters, and an interface that eliminates time wasted from waiting for an opponent to move. Other games that may be heading your way are Dawn of Aces 1.3, Flash Point, and ShockForce. Dawn of Aces and ShockForce are online-only games, while Flash Point is a strategy / action hybrid that pits the gamer in World War III.

After three years Purple Moon, a premier company for girls' software, has gone under due to "consolidation in the CD-ROM market."

Former Epic MegaGames has changed its name and relocated. Now known as Epic Games, the company has moved its headquarters and development team. According to Epic's Vice President Mike Rein, "Unreal [a game developed by Epic Games] was first created by developers who were scattered across the world." The development team finally came together and completed the beautiful work of art. The consolidation of this remarkable talent may mean greater and better things for the team.

Maxis' and Electronic Arts' SimCity 3000 is at the top of the charts in sales again, and there is no end to its reign as top-seller. To all the owners of the game out there, Maxis has made various game files available online: from game maps and terrain to custom cities. Next month a Building Architect Tool will also be available, allowing users to create their own buildings.
